you are interested in any additional tour opportunities.
Waterfall Gardens Private Tour
The duration is 1 hour 45 minutes. One of the lodges trained
staff will guide you through the trails of Waterfall Gardens. Every
step of the way they will impart information that you might otherwise
miss (things that aren't in the tour book). This will be your ultimate
Costa Rican experience of flowers, butterflies, orchids, hummingbirds,
Cloud and Rainforest, and waterfalls. The tour offers the history
and ecology of the area and interesting aspects of the construction
of Waterfall Gardens. A true behind the scenes guide to Waterfall
Gardens.
Birdwatching with Dr. Aaron Sekarak
$80 per group, under 5 people; 2 hours
This privately guided tour is for the beginner, intermediate or
'professional' birder. Naturalist and expert bird finder, Dr. Aaron
Sekarak (author of "A Travel and Site Guide to the Birds of Costa
Rica"), will take you through the trails of Waterfall Gardens and
point out the
spectacular birds and animals that have made Waterfall Gardens their
home. Since Dr. Sekarak has been on site at Waterfall Gardens, he
has incorporated many bird feeding areas into the park which have
brought many of the usually reclusive birds out of hiding. In fact,
over 200 birds have been documented on location, with many famous
bird watching groups planning their trips to Costa Rica around Waterfall
Gardens. (Limited availability)
Poás Volcano and Doka Coffee Plantation
$60 per person; 8:15 a.m. departure, 12:00 p.m. return
As you awake each morning , you will enjoy the view of the Po·s
Volcano from your Peace Lodge balcony. This tour offers you a much
closer experience. Your informative guide will transport you to
Poás, one of the four active volcanoes in Costa Rica and
impart to you the knowledge of the creation of Costa Rica via these
sleeping giants. The crystal blue sulfur pools will amaze and enthrall
you as you watch the clouds roll in. Once you've had your fill of
the beauty that is Po·s, you will head to another of Costa
Rica's trademarks: an authentic coffee plantation. As one of the
oldest hydro-powered wet mills in Costa Rica, this third generation
coffee plantation has been voted the best coffee in the region.
In fact, 90% of its high quality coffee is sent directly to Starbucks.
You'll learn how coffee is grown, picked, milled and ground. We
may even find a basket for you to pick a few beans, or 'cherries'
as the locals call them. Find out first hand, or 'cup', why Costa
Rican coffee is so famous. And if you don't get filled up on the
coffee, you'll return in time for lunch at Waterfall Gardens.
