What to bring and wear

Home Cars Hotels Cruises Tours Info Testimonials Contact us About us

Dress is informal in Costa Rica. Even in San Jose many business people do not wear suits. For your clothing, much depends on time of day and where you are in Costa Rica. Light shirts, T-shirts and shorts are fine along the coasts, but higher in the hills or mountains away from the coast you may need a pullover, jacket or windbreak in the evenings. Rain gear, such as ponchos and rubber boots, can come in handy during downpours in the rainy season, but often the place you are staying can provide these. At a pinch, most key clothing can be purchased locally in most places, unless you take a large size. If you are hiking, good hiking boots are important. Some other things worth bringing, or buying while in Costa Rica:

*Hat

*Sunglasses

*Insect repellent (although you will be surprised how few bugs bug you!)

*Strong sun tan lotion or block

*Umbrella (during rainy season or visit to Tortuguero)

*Key medication (although much can be obtained over the counter)

*Sandals or similar for water sports, rafting
