Every
building and street of Pueblo Antiguo has been designed accordingly
with the architecture of Costa Rica's major towns (Heredia, Cartago
and San José) as it appeared back in the 19th century. Buildings in
traditional architectural style include a replica of the National Liquor
Factory, Congressional Building, church, market, department store,
fire station, bookstore, and the Costa Rican Bank. The place comes
alive with oxcarts, horse-drawn carriages, live music, folkloric dances,
and actors dramatizing the past.
Each
site offers different amenities: you can take Waltz dancing lessons at
the Kiosk located in the town's central plaza, or go to a mass service
at the church, where special ceremonies and weddings can be arranged.
Taste some of Costa Rica's typical food at the market, or get those souvenirs
you were looking for by visiting the bookstore. The park has three sections:
the capital city, coast (including a replica of Tortuguero Canals), country
(with original adobe structures moved to the site, including a sugar
mill, coffee mill, and milking barn).
Pueblo Antiguo features live shows performed by park employees,
where visitors learn about our history and traditions. Experienced
actors take you step by step into the spirit of Costa Rica, and
they guide you through the theme park giving you first hand information
on each site. "Vivencias Costarricenses" (Costa Rica Experience)
and "Noches Costarricenses" (Costa Rican Nights) are performed Friday,
Saturday and Sunday only, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and from 6 p.m.
to 9 p.m. Other shows, such as "Las Animas", "Don Concepción", "Recuerdos
de Limón" and "El toro Tormenta", are scheduled during the day.

The venture is operated by the Association for the National Children's Hospital
and profits fund improvements to the hospital.
