"No climate can, I imagine, be more favorable to fertility and to man's comfort at the
same time than that of the interior of Costa Rica"     Anthony Trollope

Costa Rica is a tropical country with two seasons. The wet season, also called winter by ticos, is from May to mid-December. The dry season, or summer, is from December to April. As one goes from the drier Pacific coast it becomes progressively wetter, so that the Atlantic coast has the most rainfall (up to 300 days annually). The rainy season is also called the green season, as this is when the countryside is the greenest, and can actually be a very pleasant time to visit the country particularly as prices are lower than during the summer high season.

San Jose is at an altitude of 1,150 meters and has a marvellous temperature. Its temperature ranges from a high of 24-27 °C, to a low of 14-16 °C, the hottest months being March and April. The coasts are much hotter, the Caribbean averaging over 30°C during the day, and over 20°C at night. The Pacific is typically 2-3°C warmer.
